vosb_large

Veteran Owned Small Business (VOSB) is a company diversity registration designated under the Veteran Benefits, Health Care, and Information Technology Act of 2006 (Public Law 109-461). Registration ensures that companies qualify for preferential procurement for federal contracts if they are owned and controlled by Veterans.

This certification is non-industry specific and requires that the firm meets the small business requirements established by the Small Business Administration (SBA). Additionally, it requires that the company is at least 51% owned, operated and controlled by a veteran.

Congrats to Team USA's World Cup Advance & Security for Public Gatherings

A big congratulations to Team USA for advancing in the World Cup with their win over Iran yesterday! While we were all watching the excitement, we couldn't help but think about the convergence of security and safety related to public gatherings occurring across the country.

Things we were thinking about while watching the World Cup...

  • Separation of pedestrians and vehicles using portable barriers, public works vehicles, or choosing locations with existing protection in place
  • Attendee screening at entrances - this is a big challenge even for properties designed for large gatherings
  • Supplemental video surveillance - re-purposing existing security or traffic cameras to provide appropriate video surveillance that is different from their day-to-day use
  • Temporary video surveillance deployments on trailers with wireless connectivity capability
  • Voice communication for sending voice messages to attendees in the event of an emergency
  • Drone surveillance for birds-eye-overview and improved situational awareness
  • Increased physical security presence and communication with a nearby permanent or mobile security command center
  • Ability for authorities to access video feeds from a temporary command post or mobile device(s)
  • Supplemental lighting for evening events
  • Impact of an outdoor public gathering on adjacent building or campus security - while it may not be your event, it may impact your occupants and property
  • Emergency evacuation, in-building shelter, and medical response plans

What came to your mind?  Will you approach your next large gathering challenge differently?
