Veteran Owned Small Business (VOSB) is a company diversity registration designated under the Veteran Benefits, Health Care, and Information Technology Act of 2006 (Public Law 109-461). Registration ensures that companies qualify for preferential procurement for federal contracts if they are owned and controlled by Veterans.
This certification is non-industry specific and requires that the firm meets the small business requirements established by the Small Business Administration (SBA). Additionally, it requires that the company is at least 51% owned, operated and controlled by a veteran.
Shootout for Soldiers is a nationwide initiative whose focus is to raise funding and awareness for soldiers while bringing the youth of the men's and women's lacrosse family together. Their Mission: To use lacrosse as a platform to support American veterans and foster community engagement.
Recently, Theseus sponsored several teams at the most recent event held in Baltimore, Maryland at USA Lacrosse Headquarters. While rain cancelled the Friday evening games for the Theseus teams, the rest of the weekend was a lot of fun, making this event a total success for the players, spectators, and the Mission. Watch below as Eric Moreau and Norm Moreau discuss the event and their passion for supporting the military and their families.
Here is a summary of SFS efforts and successes this summer:
What better way to kick off the Shootout for Soldiers summer tour than with the famous NYPD vs FDNY game and the always amazing All Veteran jump team bringing in the game ball for the Veterans game at the John J Burns Park in Massapequa. Once again, the Long Island location puts up big numbers and draws lots of media attention to get the ball rolling for a great summer tour.
Tour stop #2: Canandaigua, NY, which featured an amazing Veteran village featuring nonprofits, small veteran owned businesses, and Team RWB keeping Old glory moving around the stadium simultaneously along with the 24 hour lacrosse action. As always, this event featured the midnight costume game which gets better every year. Adaptive lacrosse was showcased and an amazing record-breaking amount was raised for this location.
Next up, Northern Virginia with an impressive flurry of lacrosse action at Patriot High School. This location continues to gain momentum, garner attention, and make big jumps in amount raised for veteran programs. The Virginia leadership set lofty goals for 2023-then smashed them with a new record for the location.
Moving into September, we shifted to the Headquarters of USA Lacrosse and Tierney Field for the Baltimore event. Despite the challenges of some extreme storms, this event featured great youth, adaptive, and Veteran games and had an amazing atmosphere. The local organizers did some fantastic work and Baltimore is definitely back for the long haul after smashing their fundraising goal for 2023!
Summer just wouldn’t be complete without a tour stop in Hotlanta! Once again, Kennesaw High School played host to the SFS traveling lacrosse festival—this time as the summer close out spot. Another nice big check to close out the 2023 campaign.
At the conclusion of our 2023 SFS Summer season, we raised $436,370!! In addition to supporting our national partner, Team RWB, a portion of those funds go directly to our local charity partners who are in our host communities. Keep an eye out for stories on all of these great organizations and what they do for our veterans.
Even if you weren’t able to make it to one of these events in person to see what makes them so special, our new team of social media interns did an unbelievable job of expanding our presence and giving followers a sense of what it’s like to be there. On Instagram alone we reached over 55,00 accounts, had just shy of 600,00 impressions, and had over 15,000 post interactions. The Twitter and Tik Tok platforms were also revived and saw considerable action. Please make it a point to check out all of the Shootout for Soldiers platforms to stay up to date with all things SFS!
