Supply Chain Issues & Your Security Program

Written by Theseus Team | Dec 2, 2022 8:09:13 PM

Supply chain issues are continuing to threaten every part of virtually every business, likely including your security program. With global supply challenges around every corner, security program managers have yet another threat to consider: future product availability.

Here are some points to consider that may relate to your program:

NEW PROJECT

If you have a new project on the horizon, will the desired manufacturer be able to deliver when the order is placed? If not, do they have alternate solutions that can be substituted? Do you have an alternate manufacturer selection plan in place? Does your supplier or their distributor have an option to warehouse your products until delivery?

ONGOING PROJECTS

In many cases, security programs are so large at one facility or are geographically spread out across multiple locations that they need a continual supply of the same or compatible devices to stay ahead of deployment expectations. In cases like this, continuity of implementation may be a concern. If there are multiple sites that are expected to have the same hardware, what will happen if the supply chain hits a snag? Should more devices be ordered and stocked to ensure availability? Who will purchase and sit on the stock?

MAINTENANCE & REPAIRS

Now that your system is installed and working, do you have adequate spare parts on hand that match or are compatible with the devices and software you have deployed? If not, perhaps bringing in spare stock is appropriate.

PLANNING PARTNER

Now that we have your wheels spinning, let's figure out a plan to ruggedize your unique security program and ensure that your low voltage contractor(s) is prepared to meet your expectations. This process can include negotiations between manufacturers, distributors, and installers as well as specifying alternate products and solutions in the event that substitutions need to be made.

Theseus is more than a security engineering and design firm. When we are tasked with providing consulting services and owner representation for security program clients, we work to ensure all aspects of your solutions are designed properly, installed to specification, and maintained to manufacturer recommendations...this includes supply chain mitigation considerations.
