When is it time for a camera upgrade?

As security camera manufacturers find new and innovative ways to increase resolution and add innovative lens options, it's important to consider the strategic refresh plan for your existing security program technology. While it's enticing to want the latest and greatest security camera at your facility, many factors need to be considered. When Theseus is asked this question, we think about the following considerations at a minimum:

  • When is the next scheduled technology refresh at your facility?
  • What will the new camera deliver that the old camera did not?
  • Is the new camera currently integrated to the VMS that is in place?
  • Is the new camera currently integrated to other systems, like access control, that are in place?
  • What will the implication be to the available storage pool for cameras?
  • What mounting options are available?
  • What will be the bandwidth increase or decrease be with the new camera?
  • Is there a new compression algorithm that we need to consider?
  • Is the camera ONVIF compliant? If so, to what Profile?
  • Will the existing workstations be powerful enough and capable of displaying the camera stream properly?

These are just some of the considerations. Our team is specialized in creating custom solutions for our clients, so more questions that are applicable to each site and environment must be considered.

Let's talk about your security technology upgrade plan today!
