About our VOSB Designation

Veteran Owned Small Business (VOSB) is a company diversity registration designated under the Veteran Benefits, Health Care, and Information Technology Act of 2006 (Public Law 109-461). Registration ensures that companies qualify for preferential procurement for federal contracts if they are owned and controlled by Veterans.

This certification is non-industry specific and requires that the firm meets the small business requirements established by the Small Business Administration (SBA). Additionally, it requires that the company is at least 51% owned, operated and controlled by a veteran.

Policies, Processes, and Procedures are as Important as Technology

We were deeply concerned by the issue of healthcare workers facing a higher risk of workplace violence, which we explored in our recent article. This pressing matter highlights the urgent need for comprehensive solutions to ensure the safety and well-being of healthcare professionals.

While many security professionals prioritize the implementation of electronic measures like cameras and access control, our approach at Theseus is different. While we do incorporate technology in our deliverables, we also recognize the importance of thoroughly evaluating processes, procedures, and even the physical layout of healthcare spaces before making any recommendations.

Instead of relying solely on technology, we believe that making necessary adjustments in the physical environment can significantly enhance safety. For example, creating a physical separation in the emergency department where needed can mitigate the risk of violence more effectively than simply increasing surveillance.

Our practice takes a holistic approach to security measures, prioritizing the evaluation of policies and procedures before making any changes to electronic security systems or the physical aspects of a healthcare facility. While changes are often necessary, it's crucial to carefully assess their potential impact on operations.

In a recent collaboration between the American Hospital Association and the International Association for Healthcare Safety and Security, a broader perspective on healthcare security was embraced and a guide for health care facilities was developed. The focus expanded beyond traditional security measures to address important aspects such as:

  • Prioritizing the well-being of healthcare teams to promote their health and safety.
  • Establishing strong and synergistic relationships between security and police departments, clinical groups, and operational leaders.
  • Encouraging data-driven approaches to decision-making, ensuring that security strategies are supported by meaningful insights.
  • Making security everyone's responsibility by engaging team members and instilling a sense of ownership in their role.
  • Embedding safety and security practices into existing workflows and electronic medical records, seamlessly integrating them into the daily operations of healthcare facilities.

By adopting these comprehensive strategies, healthcare organizations can create a safer and more secure environment for their dedicated workforce. It's imperative that we prioritize the protection of healthcare professionals who tirelessly strive to provide quality care to patients.
